The assignment is basically to pick a narritve change that was made in the movie If Beale street could talk to its book version. The narrative I want you to focus on is how the movie focuses more on the love story between the main characters while the book focuses on a much bigger issue which is racial inequalities. Write about how it works and doesn’t work. Focus on how changing that narrative however was not a good idea.
Site sources from the book and movie. You should also site at least 1 of the following, an interview with an author, a filmmaker, screenplay writer, film critic to support that changing that narrative was not a good idea.
Prompt- Take one specific NARRATIVE (think plot and/or character) change made between any of the texts and films we read and watched, and explain why this change was made and whether or not it works for the themes of the story as a whole. Think about its effectiveness––why it needed to be added in order to make the story at hand clear––or why it was a narratively compelling decision. Perhaps you don’t think this change should have been made. Explain why it was a failure in terms of the larger narrative or theme of the story.
