Students are to select a classification (from the list provided) within a home or accessory category and
research this classification in depth. Information to be researched/submitted includes:
• Introduction – the history of this category (how and when it started) and how it has evolved
through today
• Product Information
• Leading manufacturers and designers
• Where merchandise is produced – domestic or foreign
• Quality and price differentials
• Where and how the merchandise is sold to the consumer (for example: types of retail outlets,
catalogs, internet)
• Applicable government rulings and laws
• Technology factors
• New product developments
This research assignment must be written in student’s own words. It should include pictures and, if
possible, samples of the merchandise category. Pictures and/or samples of the merchandise are in addition
to the typewritten portion of the paper. All work must be completed in the APA style. Written work
must be double-spaced in Times New Roman, 12-point font. Information of all kinds, whether directly
quoted or used as reference, including books, magazines, images and websites, must be properly cited
throughout your work. The report should be between 5-6 pages in length (not less than 5 pages).
Additionally, you must prepare a power point presentation for this project. You will share this
presentation with your classmates via our discussion board.
