Subject: Anything that deals with American History between 1492-1877.
[ ] Title page: your name, title (HIST101 – American History to 1877), paper title, instructor’s name (Melinda M Zupon), and date
[ ] 3 full pages of text, proper research paper, Chicago Style format
[ ] Double spaced- no titles or extra spaces between paragraphs
[ ] Font: Times New Roman – 12 point size
[ ] Margins: 1” on every side (top, bottom, left and right)
[ ] Page Numbers: Centered at the bottom of every page except the cover page
[ ] Clear, concise thesis that takes a stand and argues a point? Persuasive without being bias?
[ ] Biography or Analysis? Does your paper give information on birth, marriage, death or rather important points of why this person was important to American History?
[ ] Opening and closing paragraphs that state and restate the thesis and major points of the paper?
[ ] Bibliography listing all sources at the end of the paper- at least 2 sources-1 must be a primary source.
[ ] Scholarly sources or websites? Are your sources from the APUS Library or from .com websites where no author’s name can be found? Are they college level sources? Are they bias? Remember no Wikipedia, About.com or dictionaries.
[ ] No first/ second person (I, you, we, our, us, etc)?
[ ] Used spell check? Use proper English. Do not use abbreviations or contractions.
If you use any of the information from your sources word-for-word, you must cite the source by using endnotes, footnotes, or parenthetical citations. If you read the information and write it in your own words and it is not common knowledge, then you must cite the source because you are paraphrasing someone’s information.
